Position Description

Provides and coordinates patient care through assessment, planning, intervention, and evaluation of care for the Surgical Services area. The nurse will work with patients in Preoperative, Phase 1 and Phase 2 areas of care for our outpatients and inpatients scheduled for surgical and GI procedures. Job Summary

Reporting to the OR Nurse Manager provides and coordinates patient care through assessment, planning, intervention, and evaluation of care.

  • Provides operational and clinical oversight to the nursing team within PACU, Pre-Op/ASU, PAT, & GI.
  • Creates daily staff assignments and delegates responsibilities.
  • Communicates all changes in the surgical schedule with appropriate departments (SPD, ASU, anesthesia, surgeons, vendors, PACU, and surgical staff).
  • Develop and maintain physician relationships
  • Ensure all nursing staff have had appropriate morning and lunch breaks
  • Responsible for at least 2 days of direct patient care.
  • Ensures unit compliance with regulatory requirements.
  • Serves as a resource to subordinate nursing staff for problem solving and decision making.
  • Acts as clinical resource to staff and leadership for all perianesthesia patients.
  • Assists with new staff orientation and ongoing education for current staff

Related Qualifications

  • Graduate from an accredited school of professional nursing
  • Associates in Nursing; Bachelors preferred.
  • Current IL State RN licensure and CPR Certification
  • Team and customer service skills
  • Computer skills - windows and database systems
  • Excellent interpersonal and telephone skills
  • ACLS, NRP, PALS, EKG monitoring, arrhythmia interpretation, airway and ventilator management as required per department.
  • CPAN, CAPA or SGNA certification preferred.
